Specialized in nuclear engineering and services, Framatome Belgium is a center of expertise that supports European projects and construction site led by Framatome. Framatome Belgium’s teams of experts are involved in the design, commissioning, operation, maintenance and modification of nuclear equipment and installations, as well as dismantling.
In this frame, the Mechanical Calculation Piping Engineer will work for the Pipe Engineering and Installation Department which is responsible for the design of steel pipes carrying water or steam under high pressures and temperatures in nuclear power plants.
The Service is involved in major projects, such as EPR, and in re-evaluation or improvement studies of existing power plants, both in France and abroad.
The design of the pipes is done in stages: choice of materials, dimensioning of components, CAD design of the path in the buildings and positioning of the valves, design of the CAD support also; finally, calculations are made to verify that these pipes will withstand in all situations, both normal and accidental, the different stresses (own weight, pressure, thermal expansion, thermal shocks, anchor movements, earthquakes, hammer strikes).
You are in charge of performing flexibility calculations with the finite element calculation software: entering the geometry according to the drawings or automatically from the CAD model, analysing and programming the loads (own weight, thermal expansion, earthquake, compression or decompression waves, etc.) and their combinations, post-processing, shaping and analysis of the
results. You can also supervise the performance of these activities by subcontractors. You will also intervene on fatigue or fracture mechanics analyses, implementing various methods of finite element calculations: thermo-mechanical calculations, linear elastic or non-linear calculations to take into account plasticity, seismic calculations by modal-spectral method, temporal calculations for certain ram type dynamic loads, etc.
In the event of an unfavourable result, depending on the project, you can propose modifications to the design team, or use advanced calculation methods to improve the result.
You are a general engineer or a mechanical engineer.
You are interested in mechanical calculation in a context of engineering project, you are rigorous and have a concern for quality, while remaining sensitive to the cost and time aspects. You have good teamwork and accountability skills.
The practice of finite element calculation software (ANSYS type), or pipe calculation software (Pipestress type) would be a plus.
You are comfortable with computer tools and at least one of the usual programming languages (VBA, C/C++, Python, Fortran).
Passionate about mechanics, you appreciate the team work and are recognized for your rigor, do not hesitate and join us!
